This little jazz venue started out in a tiny warehouse space, with bums on pillows instead of seats. Since then, 505 have been decked out in a cosy ex-club space, with mood lighting, cheese-boards to nibble on and a fully licensed bar. You’ll catch bands you can wear a beret to – that is jazz, ska, afro-beat, instrumental, world music and more.

High ceilings, walls painted black and the occasional installation art piece playing out in a glass room – this trendy Oxford St venue is often packed to the brim with punters. Drink lines are long, but the music is loud and plays late into the night. Genres are varied – you might catch a US rapper, an indie band or an electro-folk hybrid. Gigs here are mostly ticketed so plan ahead.
