Cambridge Inn - Quality Hotel Cambridge
The Quality Hotel Cambridge (Cambridge Inn) first started trading in 1979 and consisted of 137 guest rooms. The Hotel owned and operated Sydney’s first 5 star restaurant known as ‘Cyranos’ which is now known as ‘212 on Riley’.
When the restaurant opened in 1979, Sydney’s then finest Chef, Rolf Widmer. introduced from France a unique dining experience to Australia , known as “Nouvelle Cuisine”. This was to the liking of some of Sydney’s most prominent business people and local residents, such as Mr Paul Keating (former Prime Minister of Australia) and Mr Lionel Murphy (former Attorney-General) and his entourage of Judges.
From 1980 through to 1995, Cambridge Inn was a proud supporter of the famous TV Show “Young Talent Time”. Many talented youths from far and wide indulged themselves in its hospitality.
Cambridge Inn underwent a major addition in 1993 by adding a 4 level podium consisting of 33 additional guest rooms and an indoor heated swimming pool/spa.
Refurbishment
A multi million dollar refurbishment which took almost 18 months has recently been completed. All areas of the hotel including foyer, bar, restaurant, guest rooms, conference rooms and exterior were stylishly refurbished. The existing lifts have been replaced with modern high speed lifts.
Local Area
The hotel is located at 212 Riley Street, Sydney East. The hotel is directly opposite the Sydney Police Centre. It is within easy walking distance to Hyde Park, Central Station, CBD, Darling Harbour, Moore Park, and Fox Studios. Oxford Street, Crown Street and Stanley Streets are also in close proximity to the hotel.
Surry Hills, and neighbouring Paddington are part of the colourful and diverse inner-city precinct that is well known for its art galleries, antique dealers, cafes, pubs, exquisite restaurants and fashion outlets. Many of the properties in this area are heritage listed and showcase some of Sydney’s early architectural styles. The historical Cambridge Inn is located in the heart of this heritage district.
